Turf for the City of Concord, CA in Contra Costa County

From our Concord warehouse and showroom, we’re proud to serve eco-smart residences and businesses all across Contra Costa County. Watersavers has made conserving water our job since we started out in 1988. Of course, people have been living in the City of Concord since well before that, so check out these fun facts about the region’s history. Maybe you’ll get inspired to help protect its future with our drought-friendly turf that preserves local natural resources.

The first humans in this area were the indigenous Miwok people. Diablo Valley was home to a small tribelet who lived along the local streams. The streams were filled with wild salmon that they caught and ate. The Miwok also harvested tule from the marshes on the edge of the nearby Bay, and used those strong rushes to build huts and boats. At the time, large herds of elk, deer, and coyotes also lived here. In the foothills, there were even grizzly bears.

Spanish explorers came to the valley and in the 1860s they began to call the main town Todos Santos. Naming their town “All Saints” might have been a response to what some locals had taken to calling a thatch of willows at the North end of the valley. That thicket of trees was said by some to be haunted by evil spirits, so they called it Monte del Diablo. That name turned into Diablo Valley, which we still use today. Todos Santos didn’t last as long. By 1869, the town had adopted its new name of Concord. Ten years later, the town recorded a population of 300 residents. Today, about 130,000 people live in the City of Concord, making it the biggest city in all of Contra Costa.

Across the county and across the whole state of California, homes and businesses are looking for ways to reduce their water usage due to the drought. Watersavers is proud to offer a green solution, one yard at a time. Switching from live grass to synthetic turf can save approx. 55 gallons of water per square foot per year! To join this eco-smart lawn trend, visit us at 4025 Nelson Avenue in Concord, give us a call at (844) 974-8873, or stop by one of our other Northern California stores.
